Marble Caves, Patagonia

Water has eroded calcium carbonate cliffs to form a beautiful and unusual cave system in Chile Chico, Aysén, Chile. It is one of the best-hidden gems in Chile’s Patagonia region. Situated in the center of General Carrera Lake, these stunning caves can only be reached by boat or kayak.

Over the past 6000 + years, the magnificent Marble Caves have formed as the water melted from surrounding glaciers flooding General Carrera Lake and scrubbing against these strong rocks gradually forming complex caverns, walls, and tunneling systems.

Marble Caves are located in southern Chile, on General Carrera Lake. General Carrera Lake is Chile’s largest lake, and it stretches Argentina next to Chile. But the Marble Caves are situated and accessible from the Chilean side, so if you wish to visit these cave formations from Argentina, you’ll need to fly to Chile via the city of Chile Chico. Taking a boat tour is the easiest and most convenient choice of the two.
